Scott Field AirFest 2003

Tankers

There were a number of tankers for show as well. Here's a K-10 Extender.

Here's a KC-135E Stratotanker. The body is actually quite comfortable.

This is the cockpit. The crew were explaining various things to the visitors.

This hole is on the ceiling right behind the cockpit. It actually is a hole - it is so a navigator can make a star sighting with a sextant. It seems that its now used for other purposes. A crewwoman said that when she was a rookie a more senior officer told her to take a measurement through the hole - note that air pressure is much less outside the airplane than inside, so her measurement device was sucked right out of the airplane. Other crew mentioned that they do that with eggs, or toilet paper - put a pencil through the holder and see who can get the longest continuous stream. This is why we have the greatest military in the world.
