The Page Ave extension was built across the tip of the lake.
The Dripping Springs where yet another lovelorn Indian girl plunged to her
death. That seems to have happened a lot in Missouri.
A (mostly) paved walking path leads around the lake.
It leads under the bridge too.
There are many Logan's Run moments around here with modern technology
appearing from out of the forest.
The path around the lake follows the far side of the bridge. We
instead chose a spur
that led away from the lake as it looked interesting.
It looked like a gravel road built fairly recently for construction
vehicles. Far ahead of us three deer crossed the road - the brown spot
in the center of the picture is one of them that stood there looking at
us. Note that it was still midafternoon - unusual to see them out and
about.
Deer near here - they were there as seen above.
There were things along the sides that must have been
there long before the road, like this bridge.
There is something metal off beyond those trees...
Er... Its apparently the body of a car that is buried up above its
wheel wells. I wonder how it got here, and how long its been here...
After about a mile round trip we returned to the path leading around the
lake.
Walking along under the bridge shows a number of these on the ground.
I was disturbed. I would have expected them to have been attached to the
bridge deck far above me.
A canal is on the far side of the bridge and this was parked in it.
Continuing on around the lake other interesting things could be found.
Beyond those sailboats is a parking lot containing my car. I don't think this
path was as short as we thought it was...
This small bird was fighting with some sort of green seed.
Did I mention it was wet here? Water on the grasses.
Queen Anne's Lace, opened and still opening.
Considering the mile detour we took on top of this, we're getting kind of tired
around now...
Dammit. The parking lot is still behind those sailboats. That's a long ways
still from here.
At the bridge... Slogging along...
The Page extension bridge is seen again...
Okay, this is getting silly now, and the car still isn't in sight.
Finally - back near the car after over 6 miles of walking.
This waterbird was nearby.
Greensfelder park is on top of the bluff above Creve Coeur park.
Yes, the pavilion was built in the 1950s when the UFO style was popular.
That's a big lake, and we walked around it, with a detour no less. An accomplishment.
In retrospect, we really should do that sort of thing more often.
