It seems to be pretty secure within the launch pad area - here the tour guide holds up a badge to a guard at a security checkpoint. Yes, even the tour buses have to be checked.
All around KSC is a nature preserve. The dark cup-shaped object in the tree is a Bald Eagle nest which has been continuously occupied now for over 30 years. That gator is in a watercourse that runs along the road - just as we passed it nearly made that bird its dinner.
So-so views of the Vehicle Assembly Building.
We drove right by the crawler that carries the shuttle from the VAB to the launch pad, and had an equally good view once we debarked.
These are the tracks left by the crawler.
