Altenburg

The road to the rock leads through Altenburg. Its surprisingly interesting - a Saxon Lutheran settlement from the early 1800s.

Altenburg has a number of buildings inside of buildings - like the Russian nesting dolls. Here's one of the Saxon Lutheran houses from 1839.

Looking in the window Saxon Lutherans apparently like Dutch Waffle Cakes.

There was a memorial here to various Lutherans.

Here's another building-in-building.

Its windows are so old they are starting to ripple.

The logs are held together by a matrix of mud and straw.

Guess this building is still in use too.

The town itself, in addition to the SL stuff, is interesting. Its so small that the city hall and fire station are the same building.

It has an old Lutheran church.

It had a blacksmith.

Its having a mud race in a couple of weeks. What caught my eye was the appended announcement of "dance following".

Roads C Y A. Interesting.

Die Kleine Schule.

We came across a Saxon Lutheran memorial.

That house has an old part, and a new part.

Lots of other period buildings were here.

There was also a statue of a locally famous Lutheran.
