To the LGC

To get to the LGC we had to backtrack to cross a bridge over the river into Illinois. We passed this spot for outdoor services.

I knew it. Corn kills.

The LGC is south of Murphysboro (on the way back we ate at Tippy's there - great deep fried catfish and steak). The roads got progressively more rural as we tried to find the LGC.

The LGC is a canyon, though filled with trees unlike the traditional Grand Canyon. Its scenic, but even to get to the overlook one must follow a 1/2 mile trail that changes 200 ft in elevation, or so a sign claims. LIAR. Those numbers have to be multiplied by a factor of 10. They must be. Still, once there, this is your reward.

Jill thought this sign was silly: "Many plants and animals live here." "No, they commute" she said.

Okay, how do we get back to civilization?

We the bridge we crossed was at Chester - we crossed it again on the way home.

We finally found the Popeye statue - its right across the bridge were we weren't looking for it.

Its in this small park.

The park also has a few other interesting signs. We wanted Route 3, not the other places.
