Dec 1 - Back to NY and Hockey

More Union Hockey

Union faced RPI in Division I play at the RPI fieldhouse at RPI in Troy, NY. Unlike Mercyhurst this was a league game.

Everyone out and warming up.

5 seconds into the first period and all is well. "Lets go RED!" isn't though.

Prof. Spallholz was in attendance.

So was Prof. Almstead, though she didn't want to let me prove it.

Chris and Jim - Jim wearing the Union College Hockey hat.

Anne.

Between 1st and 2nd period a lucky person got to shoot a puck at the semi-blocked net for a prize. Was it that car?

There were about 4200 people there, but it felt like more to me.

2nd period - fighting for the puck.

More action.

Still scoreless halfway through 2nd period. "Lets go RED!" is getting annoying though.

Oh no! Brandon Snee, the goalie for Union, is down! Looks like his leg!

He stayed there for a while, but eventually got up under his own power and stayed in the game.

After a goal near the end of the 2nd period by RPI, Union scored seconds later. 1-1 at the end of 2nd period.

That thing on the ice is "Puck Man." As I understand it, RPI had tried a bird mascot (as they can be known as the Redwings) but it was so chicken-like that even RPI fans yelled "KFC!" when it came out on the ice. They reverted to puck boy here.

Now in the 3rd period, RPI has a one goal lead. That "Lets go RED!" really is starting to get on my nerves.

Still 3rd period, 7 minutes have passed, and still 2-1. Something has to be done about that scoreboard LED display.

Whew. By 6:42 Union had scored - now 2-2. Even that LED is blank too - things are looking up!

This is the second 5-3, advantage RPI. Union got out of this one unscathed as well.

Still 2-2 at the end of the 3rd, so go into overtime. The LED is back! AAAGH!

Still 2-2 in the final minute of play. Can this be even more stressful?

Game ends 2-2 and everyone shakes hands. "Drive Home Safely" is better.

My ticket stub.
