High Knob
Next was High Knob. Its somewhat high - a gravel road leads up to the top
where there is a picnic area and a nice view.
There were a number of large birds around - this is probably a hawk. We also
saw turkey vultures having lunch in the middle of the road - lunch was a
creature that wasn't so lucky when crossing.
More rocks.
Iron Furnace
Next was an actual iron furnace used to smelt iron "pigs" built in the
mid 1800s. Eventually 100 families grew up around the furnace (and it had
its own post office) but now this is all that remains.
Both sides have furnace areas.
There were lots of ladybugs inside the furnace.
