Lake of the Ozarks Region

On 4/17/2004 Jill and I visited central Missouri around the Lake of the Ozarks - about 425 miles and 15.5 hrs. The high today was 87 degrees, btw, and its mid April.

The first part of the journey was about 150 miles on I-44. We had to stop to photo these "water" towers.

Got gas here - yet another antique pump where you pay after you use it. Here's Jill after she discovered the restroom was the port-a-potty just to the left of this picture (note the green sign).

While stopped on the road for nearly an hour waiting for a parade to pass in Camdenton (Dogwood Festival, yep) I had time to take a pic of this - its for sale too.

Our first stop was Ha Ha Tonka state park exhibiting Karst geology - basically big sinkholes. Here's a path that leads to River Cave.

The cave. Note that it has a big gate in front of it.

This is why. We'd scare some bats if we went in.

Interesting looking cave though, although not meant for the casual traveler. No tended paths, etc. that could be seen through the gate. Its also much cooler down by the entrance - it was in the 80s up above and in the 50s down here.

We actually are down a bit of a ways.

Around the cave entrance is attractive nature.

A natural bridge. Technically.
