Pickup Day

On 7/17/04 Jill and I had a pickup day - went back and caught some of the various attractions that we had missed on other days.

The old cemetery in Florissant has residents back to the 1700s, but we didn't come across ones quite that old.

This person just must have been very thin.

Some of the newer ones were pretty advanced in terms of cemetery technology.

Next stop was St. Ferdinand's Church in Florissant's Old Town, the oldest standing church in the Louisiana Territory. When we were here a couple of weeks ago it wasn't yet open for the day.

The interior has rooms with period furniture and items from the church's history. The Chapel of Mother Rose Philippine Duschesne itself was built 1819.

The church itself is nice.

Ceiling art.

This is at the front of the church.

It contains a mannequin of St. Valentine, as well as relics of his from 270 AD. Jill is reflected.

A view from above.

One room is set up as a museum. Nun dolls.

Items from 1799.

There are various statues around the grounds.

Outside there is a sign explaining Florissant.

Dragon cloud.
